Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Mike T — 14 Jan 2009
The scope of Bertolucci's enormous epic is, in itself, something to be admired. The photography is stunning. Storaro's color scheme and majestic camera movement bring texture and visual power to the film.
Spanning over several decades, The Last Emperor never loses the viewer because its common thread is the examination of a person's painfully unorthodox life. This technical gem is also an emotionally effective and very tragic story.
Breathtaking.
