Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Ivan D — 08 Dec 2009
One of the best biopics I have ever seen, and also a great representation of China's history & culture. Beyond all the epic sequences and lavish costume and set designs, also lies a complex story of a man torn apart between love, nationalism, power, and pride.
Pu-Yi is not a likable character for me, but the end sequence at the Forbidden City was really moving and beautiful. It is also rather unbelievable that John Lone's performance as adult Pu-Yi was completely overlooked through the years.
