Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Sherry Z — 17 Feb 2013
This was a heart wrenching story about a man who was given too much responsibility and high expectations. a man who was thrust into his position before he was prepared and who struggled his whole life with what it means to be an emperor and coming to terms with the mistakes he made in the process.
I loved the way the story was told in fragments of flashbacks and while you know how things will turn out, I still myself spellbound by the storytelling that took me to that end. In a way, this was almost a Shakespearean story of possibilities gone awry.
It's definitely a thought provoking and interesting movie.
