Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Neil K — 03 Mar 2008
A truly classic tragedy on an epic scale with political intrigue, heartbreaking relationships and phenomenal character development. Although the story is a bit vague to those unfamiliar with China's history, the characters are compelling enough to generate an interest in those wanting to learn more.
Vittorio Storaro's cinematography is quite possibly the greatest photography ever presented in a major motion picture, opening a window into the past and captivating the viewer from the very first frame.
Highly recommended!
