Review of The Last Emperor (1987) by Tony D — 10 Mar 2008
Was REALLY disappointed in this film that I've heard so highly praised all my life. It would have been so much better had they kept it in their natural language instead of English, and just subtitled it for US release.
Now granted, I saw one of the truncated versions of the film, but I doubt it makes much of a difference since all Bertolucci films have the same editing and overdubbing - haphazard. Peter O'Toole hams up what little screen time he has, and like everyone else in the film, he chews scenery big time.
