With excessive profanity, stark cinematography, and minimal sound editing, Hal Ashby's The Last Detail bears a brash realism that lends itself to the movie's simultaneously affable and tragic feel.
The enigmatic Jack Nicholson, the budding Randy Quaid, and the seldom-seen Otis Young play a commanding trio of seamen on a debaucherous odyssey across New England. It's the superb acting talent tearing into Waldo Salt's immaculate script that is completely mindblowing.
Hilarious and heart-breaking, The Last Detail asks some important questions. it's one of the greatest buddy movies of all time, and an extremely great work on all fronts.
