Review of The Last Days on Mars (2013) by Allan C — 14 Jun 2014
I wanted to really like this film. It starts our quite promising with a team of Mars astronauts winding up a mission, but all the quirky cleverness of the first act quickly goes down the drain and become a standard monster-in-a-spaceship sci-fi/horror film, ALA Alien/Event Horizon/Leprechaun in Space.
The film has a decent cast, which includes Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas, Olivia Williams and it started out quite well, reminding me a lot of "Moon," which was another low-budget sci-fi flick.
"Moon" started our smart and quirky, but it managed to maintain it's intelligence and avoid cliche, while "The Last Days on Mars" quickly became riddled with cliches and becomes blandly predictable.
There are a few interesting scenes on the surface of Mars near the end, but that's not enough to save the film.
