Review of The Last Castle (2001) by Shea L — 26 Apr 2011
Man is Robert Redford cool, no matter how old he gets he just gets cooler. The Last Castle is a great example of that. He commands respect and just has amazing presence as the dishonored General who is sent to prison but is really punishing himself more then they ever could, but he is still the same man he has always been, and that means he can't just let those around him be treated badly, and that seems to happen a fair bit at the military prison.
Now as great as Robert Redford is in this, it mainly works because he has an amazing villain to go toe to toe with in James () as the warden. The Last Castle is a pretty unique prison movie, in that the main motivation is not a prison break, but just that the warden quits, and the former soldiers be treated like men again, so the interesting story and great performances all help to make this a pretty memorable prison movie.
