Review of The Last American Virgin (1982) by John A — 07 Nov 2007
Porky's and Fast Times At Ridgemont High gave birth to the teen sex comedy genre. A series of whimsical, light-hearted films usually about young people trying to have sex, containing graphic nudity, language, and Pop music soundtrack tie-ins.
L.A.V. delivers all of the chuckles and jugs that the others do, but adds a little more depth, sincerity and heart. The last half of the film builds you up with sweet romantic sentimentality, only to suddenly kick you in the gut and send you home with a healthy dose of reality.
The first half of Eli Roth's Hostel is based in no small way on this genre of film, and I believe on this very film, including the similar three character structure, and the fate of the two main leads.
A great film, and probably the best of the post "Fast Times" cash-in.
