Review of The Last Airbender (2010) by Matteo P — 09 Jun 2014
As someone who watched and loved the original tv show that this movie was based off of, I can't help but wonder why Shyamalan decided to remove all the fun, emotion, and entertainment from this movie adaptation.
Shyamalan has always been more focused on the drama and dark quality of his movies rather than the fun or development. However the original show, while dramatic, also has a lot of heart and fun to it. This movie has none of it, and this it fails as a movie adaptation of the show.
As a movie by itself, it's too rushed and is too riddled with dramatic expositional dialogue. The effects and choreography look silly, and the characters are so bland and emotionless that the viewer can't connect with them.
If you really want to see an amazing story with fun and interesting characters, as well as real drama and development, go see the original show Avatar: The Last Airbender.
