Review of The Ladykillers (2004) by Tim B — 20 Mar 2011
A good, not great, remake of the original 1955 films with Alec Guinness. Resetting the whole caper in the South (apparently sometime in the 90s, although this is the world of the Coens) is a grand idea.
Unfortunately it never quite hold together, as the Coens seem incapable of deciding if they're making a caper movie or a dark comedy. Hanks is actually the best part, playing a version of Colonel Sanders with an edge of Guinness's initial oddity.
I'd like to see him play these sorts of bizarre, nasty characters more often.
