Review of The Ladykillers (2004) by Charley D — 05 Aug 2008
"I got blueberry syrup on my safari jacket!".
Coen Brothers' unconventional remake/homage of Alexander MacKendrick's 1955 film.
Supposedly Disney was hoping for another "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" but ended up with this offbeat gem.
At issue (amongst other things) was Tom Hanks paying a role counter to his more atypical and profitable roles. Despite, and probably due to this, the film is an awesome testament to his brilliance.
However, each performer pulls more than his or her weight, particularly with a standout Marlon Wayans performance and J.K. Simmons as Garth Pancake.
....
"We must all have waffles forthwith! We must all think, and we must all have waffles, and think each and every one of us to the very best of his ability.".
