Review of The Ladykillers (2004) by Joe E — 13 Jul 2009
I saved this for my last Coen brothers movie, just because I had heard how bad it was. I finally saw it and was really surprised - it's actually a very funny movie, with lots of hilarious and clever dialogue, far more focused in tone than the scattershot "Intolerable Cruelty.
" Tom Hank's eccentric, pretentious, archaic villain is certainly the high point, clueless to the fact that his verbose monologues are lost on the other characters. The only missteps are some slight overacting from Wayans (who still ends up being funny, more often than not) and a series of ill-advised I.
B.S. jokes regarding J.K. Simmons (who, that aside, is one of the best characters).
