Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by C. G — 28 May 2006
Not one of his best, but still a rather ingenious and playful film, Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes takes place soley on a train (other than the opening) where an elderly woman simply disappears. One woman is determined to find her but no one ever remembers seeing her.
Fun, but Hitchcock probably gives everything away too soon. Still an intriguing and clever setup executed as only Hitchcock could do.
Criterion's DVD (#3) is one of their earlier releases and therefore fairly disappointing. Average image and next to no supplements, exceptn for a decent commentary track by Bruce Eder.
