Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Mjs M — 15 May 2009

This is probably my favorite of Hitchcock?s British films. He still hasn?t quite reached the degree of mastery that he?d one day achieve, but it?s still a very fun ride. This film shows off the lighter side of Hichcock, it has a lot of comedy in it and it generally isn?t the weightiest piece of work, it?s meant as escapism made during a time of escalating world tensions.

This is also one of those movies that has had its basic premise ripped off a lot, the recent thriller Flightplan looked like an un-official remake from its trailer. The finale, a shootout, seemed a bit out of place; but it?s still all pretty fun.
