Michael Redgrave - how can one who seems so empty be such a great movie hero? Redgrave takses the part wonderfully. Lockwood is suitably "fainting, girly-girl" and yet also a strong and determined heroine in true Dornford Yates style. Dame May is a pleasingly dotty governess - though I've always pictured Miss Froy as Margaret Rutherford - and the list goes on; Googie Withers, Cecil Parker, Paul Lukas are all onewould hope and Catherine Lacey is the most wonderful wicked nun! Obviously anything featuring Naunton Wayne and Basil Radford has to be a classic.
This is great Hitchcock and, as often mentioned below, vastly underrated. I enjoy the later version too, but it's not a patch on the Hitchcock.
