Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Maxwell S — 15 Oct 2012
Hitchcock could easily be said to be the greatest director ever. Why I believe this is because he keeps his subtleties and his main focuses perfectly in tact and in proportion, while giving us the absolute best of both. He's always different, but always the same. The Lady Vanishes is one of his most artistic endeavors, and one of his most rawly brilliant, as well. The Lady Vanishes, I believe, is one of the 5 greatest Hitchcock films. Arguably, his absolute most clever. One thing that a thoroughly love about Lady Vanishes is that it is a lot less dense, and allows more into the film than a normal Hitchcock film, but that doesn't lessen the film, in fact, for this particular story, it enhances it by quite a lot. Also, it is oddly hilarious, particularly in the first part before the train. All in all, this is a film that needs to be studied from.
Everyone has heard of Hitchcock, but it's a shame that only few will be able to truly realize that he is the greatest.
