Review of The Lady from Shanghai (1947) by Bob W — 15 Jun 2009
Hayworth is beautiful and compelling as ever, though I'll never forgive Orson Welles for having her cut off her locks to go platinum blond. Neither did producer Cohn. This noir didn't do well at the box office originally, perhaps because the wordy plot is a bit hard to follow, or maybe because of all the cuts and choppy editing, or maybe because of Welles' hokey Irish accent, or maybe the misleading title (nothing to do with Shanghai).
However it is still very interesting to see the great Welles and Hayworth work together in a murder mystery at the peak of their creative talent.
