Review of The Lady from Shanghai (1947) by Ethan Y — 18 Jun 2009
Welles crafts a noir filled with some of the most sinister and conniving characters this side of Touch of Evil. None of them are particularly likeable, and some of them are downright evil, but that's what makes the movie so much fun.
The Lady From Shanghai isn't a classic like Citizen Kane or The Magnificent Ambersons, but as a straightforward noir, it's compelling, dark, and thoroughly entertaining.
