Review of The Lady from Shanghai (1947) by Steven M — 02 Feb 2010
I thought this was great fun. It flew by like a woozy dream. Characters are strangely exaggerated, camera angles make you do a double take and the plot is crazily complicated. How much this was due to the cuts made by the studio, I don't know, but the film is disorientating.
The visual invention culminates in an amazing climactic shootout. The imagery in the finale is surreal and stands the test of time with ease.
