Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by Raelene S — 16 Mar 2008
In this lively screwball comedy which could almost have been written yesterday, Stanwyck is astonishingly fresh, funny and modern - light-years away from her mannered, dated turn in Double Indemnity and spared that ghastly blonde fright-wig - and Henry Fonda is a pitch-perfect as usual.
Yet the plotting and motivation goes a little awry in the second half and that means we're left with only one-liners and slapstick - of the highest quality, mark you.
