Review of The Lady (2011) by Michelle S — 07 Jan 2012
A based on real events biopic from director Luc Besson tells the story of pro democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi (Michelle Yeoh) and her relationship with writer and academic Michael Aris (David Thewlis) during a particularly troubling political period in Burma.
The films pays testament to the sacrifices of both Suu, who spent 15 years under house arrest separated from her husband and two children and Michael, who campaigned for her to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.
A slow and dull tribute of a stirring true story. More patient passive resistance than rousing revolutionary rebellion.
