Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Heather G — 02 Jun 2010
I have not read the book so I don't know how the film compares; but I found this film very moving. In fact I was close to tears on quite a few occasions!
The themes of the story include friendship, bullying, rape and child abuse among other things. This could be quite a tall order and at times is difficult to watch; but I feel that it is handled very well to tell the story of an Afghan immigrant trying to atone for his past. In particular, the rape scene is handled sensivitely - nothing is shown, only implied.
I was impressed by how cohesive the film is, considering the range of issues and the fact that the story spans 2 decades. I was also very impressed by all of the performances, in particular the role of Baba.
Highly recommended.
