Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Liu K — 20 Dec 2011
To be honesty,I must say that this the best film I have seen.I like Amir very much.I think he is loyal and brave. And the word "for you,a thousand times over" impress me deeply. The story is mainly between a boy named Amir and a boy named Hassan. Amir's father was rich man, he could have servants, Hassan was one of them. His main job was play with Amir, and to be fair to him forever. As Assef, a big boy in the movie said, Hassan was as fair as a dog to Amir. They were like brothers. However, just as other young boys, Amir was not always kind to Hassan. When the taditional activity of Afghanistan Flying Kites came, every child was ready to win the prize. The rule is to fly the kites, then use the thread of the kite to cut others'. Who is the last to be cut, who is the winner. The winner could run for the kite he wants. Amir was good at flying kites, but Hassan was good at running for kites. Just as Amir said" He'd run kites, never look up at the sky. Someone claimed he was just chasing the kite's shadow. But they didn't know like I did. He wasn't chasing the shadows. He just knew." When Amir won, Hassan started to run the kite for Amir. He said:"For you, a thousand times over." This sentence showed the love to Amir. As soon as Hassan got the kite which Amir wants, he was frightened by the big boys included Assef. Amir saw this by his eyes, but he was so weak that he didn't help Hassan, he just waited outside and pretended nothing hapened.
From then on, Amir was afraid to saw Hassan. He lied Hassan stealed his watch which his father gave him as a bithday present to make Hassan leave. Before long, the war began. Amir and his father had to leave Afghanistan for America. After that, everything had changed, Amir's family began their new life there. Amir became a fiction writer and his book had come out. He even married a beautiful Afghan girl. He got everthing, fame, love, family, wife and so on. He got almost everything he wanted.
However, a call from Afghanistan changed his life. It was his uncle, he called him back. He told Amir Hassan died and he had a son named Sohrab, Sohrab was Amir's nephew, for Hassan was Amir's father and a woman's son. Hassan was Amir's brother. This gave Amir a shock. He thought he was wrong at that time, it was his responsibity to save Sohrab from danger. At last, he was back to Afghanistan and bring Sohrab back to America. The movie ended with the picture that Amir was running for the kite for Sohrab, just as Hassan didi this for him. He said the same sentence to Sohrab "For you, a thousand times over.".
