Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Kevin Val B — 10 Dec 2009
I like movies that ironically contrasts the pervading strength of innocents and the immature brutality of adults. For me, this is the central theme to this heartbreaking tale of brotherhood and redemption.
Amir grew up with the fiercely loyal Hassan, whose virtues he never lives up to. This is something he is embarrassed about as a boy and attempts to correct as an adult. After living comfortably in America, he goes back to Afghanistan for his singular act of redemption.
There, he witnesses the barbaric transformation of his once proud homeland and its people, as he struggles to find the strength that has once escaped him. I know that recap sounds a bit flowery, but I really do find the story that beautiful and affecting.
It's enough for me to recommend this tearjerker of a film.
