Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Britt W — 14 Jan 2010
The story of two friends growing up in Afghanistan in the time leading up to the Russian invasion and how terrible global and personal events impact on them. This movie is an intimate portrait of friendship, family, honour and regret set against a wide political and social vista.
Marc Foster directs the cast in a believable and subtle manner focusing on tiny detail rather than the full scale terror of the invasion and Taliban regime. For me, the stand out aspects of the movie were the backdrops of old Kabul and the battles between the kites which were truly breathtaking.
A facinating glimpse of a period in time and a culture that has been shattered by cruelty and evil.
