Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Phil H — 07 Mar 2010
There is a way to be good again -- this is the tagline of this movie.
A story about a man who committed act of selfishness when he was still young; and came back to redeem himself. This is actually quite a good movie and provides an insight of the many types of discriminations in Afghanistan, in addition to the war!
The discrimination is both religious and racial: between Sunni and Shia; and between Pasthuns and Hazara.
We found out that this movie was based on a book by Khaled Hosseini -- so if you have not seen the movie, read the book first!
Finally, we love the story eventhough not so clearly transitioned. The movie spent a long time on a seemingly non-related the background that made it quite draggy. Also, on the ending part -- Sohrab actually managed to use his slingshot to break open Ashef (the Taliban guy) and then managed to run away from the Taliban infested areas with Amir? The moview should have provided a better option for this.
Still very much a good and insightful movie.. and makes us think what friends really are for.
