Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Stig S — 13 Sep 2010
My wife enjoyed reading the book so we fished this out of the local supermarket bargain bin and what a gem we found.
This touching tale of a relationship between to young boys growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan will break your heart, several times over.
It was fascinating to understand the modern history of Afghanistan without it getting in the way of the drama. Partly a coming-of-age story, the action moves through time between Kabul and America. The locations are amazing and it was great they kept the foreign language for the film. It switches between subtitles to them speaking English (when in America) seamlessly.
According to my wife, the father & son relationship wasn't portrayed as deeply as in the book but perhaps that would have taken the focus away from the 2 boys?
Really worth watching.
