Review of The Kissing Booth (2018) by Stephen C — 12 Aug 2018
What positive thing can I say about this movie. Joey King can act. I honestly didn't like any of the characters. So two kids grownup together and set up rules for their friendship. But these rules seem only to apply to the girl not the boy.
Girl falls for boys brother which of course is against the rules. That is the entire plot. The guys in the film are, violent, stupid and unapologetic but apparently smart enough to get into Harvard. The girls are vacuous stereotypes that do whatever the boys say.
Boy promises he wont be violent....5 mins later beating up his brother. Girl stands up for self say she won't be told what to do....5mins later gur punches car and she hops straight in......future abuse for this girl.
Two gays are thrown in for political correctness but done in a creepy way! They have no relevance to story, they actually don't speak. It's all conveyed with demented grins. I wanted the girl to get rid of the brothers! Not really what a romcom is trying to achieve.
There are a smattering of funny moments but that's all. Jacob Elordi, Joel Courtney and Joey King could have been great with a decent script, characters and plausible story arc. Big miss!
