Review of The King's Speech (2010) by Paul W — 03 Jun 2013
One of those rare instances where you can believe the hype. This is a genuinely great movie, with all the ingredients that make a great movie great. The movie is correctly, but unjustly, criticized for some historical inaccuracy.
How then, unjust if correct? Because such criticism misses the point of the movie: it's not history, it's personal. It's a story about the intimate problems of a public man. Idiosyncratic people form idiosyncratic bonds under the most extraordinary of circumstances.
A story about overcoming personal flaws and the feelings of inadequacy they create is universal. The subject of the story being a king only underscores the universality.
