Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Nancy K — 30 Jun 2010
I put thison my netflix queue a while ago thinking it sounded interesting and because I am a HUGE fan of classic arcade games. And when I say classic, I mean Atari 2600 type classic... PacMan, DonkeyKong, Mappy... love love LOVE classic games.
This film explores not only others who love classic games, but also the bizarre and sometimes scandalous world of competitive classic gaming. I found myself getting up to root on Steve Wiebe, talking to the tv and completely engrossed in the film. The players are unique and strange, but still easy to relate to even if they are rather extreme.
An excellent look at the things that hold our attention and the human psyche, The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters is a great flick.
