Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Elliot G — 12 May 2008
This film gets pushed under the carpet between 'Raging Bull' and 'Last Temptation', but it's worth seeking out. Even though it's colorful and features one of Jerry Lewis' more watchable performances, a case where he actually acts, playing against type, the dark undercurrents about celebrity and obsession are pretty disturbing.
De Niro is excellent, per usual, in the offbeat lead role. Great payoff ending, too. Anyone with ambition should be able to identify.
