Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Greg S — 16 Oct 2008
While it's still undeniably 'minor Scorsese' - the visual style is very subdued compared to his other films, the character of Rita is a bit dodgy (not even mentioning the actress playing her) - but Zimmerman's script is sharp and clever, the ending is brilliant, Jerry Lewis is excellent, and De Niro lights up the screen as Rupert Pupkin in a role best described as anti-Travis Bickle.
