Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Anonymous User — 29 Aug 2009
Yo, I'm not really that big on Scorsese, but between this and After Hours, this guy really needs to direct more Comedies. Robert De Niro (in probably my favorite role of his) plays a delusional stand-up comedian desperate for a slot at a late night talk show (hosted by Jerry Lewis, in another great performance).
Like most Black Comedies, I didn't think it's funny at all, despite all the absurdity and funny lines. Because it's kind of a tragedy about this unstable human being who actually thinks he deserves a shot, someone who apparently can't separate fantasy from reality, looking up to people who turn a blind eye to his lifelong pursuit of fame and surrounded by people who are as crazy as he is.
Really great movie, see it.
