Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Edith N — 30 Apr 2010
6.9/10 --.
Here's an entertaining if underrated film that touches on the dangers of celebrity culture but never seems to take it to the really scary places that it could. Nor is it really all that funny until people start getting kidnapped. De Niro gives an amazing performance as aspiring comedian/stalker of talk show personalities, and as such De Niro pretty much makes this movie (though his co stars deserve there just dues also). "King" seems to walk the middle a little too closely, however the expert cast and script elevate it well above the mediocrity it easily might have fallen to.
