Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Mike B — 16 Jun 2011
This is easily the most underrated movie Scorsese ever produced. It's darkly funny, cynical, edgy, thought-provoking & chilling. Although seemingly far-fetched at the time, it has proved to be uncomfortably prophetic.
The performances by all concerned (including the supporting cast) are excellent & Scorsese's tight, economical direction complements the acerbic screenplay perfectly. This is probably the most effective satire on popular celebrity ever produced & in many ways, has proved to be ahead of it's time.
