Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Eduardo C — 29 Oct 2013
Robert De Niro gives an iconic performance, perhaps the greatest of his career, as a mentally deranged wanna be entertainer/comic who is jealous and resentful of Johnny Carson like Jerry Langford (played very well by Jerry Lewis).
De Niro ultimately makes an insane bid for fame aided by a deranged friend of his played brilliantly by Sandra Bernhard. Often disturbing but also part funny , part thrilling, and always entertaining, Scorsese's film is one of his very best.
Scorsese also used members of his family in the film, including hilariously, his own mom, who is heard but never seen.
