Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Kevin L — 03 Jan 2014
One of Martin Scorsese's most unheralded masterpieces. This time he takes a poke at fame, the desire for fame, the media machine that creates it, and the collateral damage that it can cause. Putting stalker culture under the microscope before "stalker" even entered the our common vocabulary, this film was oddly prescient about the kind of danger that fame can put it's figureheads in.
An oddly offbeat role for Deniro to take on, but he delivers. If you're a fan of Scorsese, but this one flew under your radar, I highly recommend it.
