Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Liam C — 20 Feb 2014
When Martin Scorsese says that he thinks that this is De Niro's best performance under his direction, there is no question about it, you need see this movie as soon as possible. And what a performance it is! Robert De Niro is amazing! This is seriously one of the best things he has ever done.
The King of Comedy is not an easy film to watch mostly due to the annoyingly persistent nature of Rupert Pupkin and because of how he treats people but strangely I wanted to keep watching because of Pupkin, I really quite liked him, in a very odd way.
Probably because I've never really seen a character like this. It's a very painful and annoying film to watch but for the right reasons. And I don't know if I was supposed to, but I found Pupkins jokes quite funny and the ending is incredible.
I loved it and cannot wait to see it again.
