Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Elgan D — 20 May 2015
The King of Comedy is a classic Scorsese ode to New York City and also features one of Robert DeNiro's more heartwarming, funny and kind performances with his long time director partner. Throughout, Rubert Pupkin is likable in a strange way and also subliminally sad in his want for success and a need to escape from his uncontrolled life which he wishes to take control of.
The ending is heartwarming and features an unexpected and genuinely funny monologue from Pupkin/DeNiro which uplifts and gives hope to what seemed like a fruitless venture.
