Review of The Kindergarten Teacher (2018) by Keanex — 16 Feb 2021
Maggie Gyllenhaal acted her butt off. She plays an incredible role of a middle-aged woman struggling with identity who finds genius in a 5 year old student's poetry that she desperately clings onto to give herself a sense of worth and one last attempt at becoming someone.
In the process she becomes obsessed with the child's poetry to the point of making highly questionable decisions, committing adultery, and assumedly ruining her life by ending up in jail for kidnapping - potentially damaging the child's mental state in the process.
It's an uncomfortable movie but it's very well done.
