Review of The Killing Fields (1984) by Ripö M — 05 Apr 2008
The soundtrack for this movie was far too heavy-handed, clunky, and obvious. The acting was superb all around, and it was kind of random and fun to see John Malkovich pop up in there. It's power and poignant and I applaud its willingness to go against the grain in terms of what based-on-a-true-war-story Hollywood films do.
It was too long by about half an hour, though, and could have easily been trimmed down to a clean one hour and fifty minutes. An excellent movie and one that a lot of people should see, though it's not as relevant today as it was in 1984.
The core message, though, is still there, and its heart is still vitally important.
