Review of The Killing Fields (1984) by Fernando B — 21 Sep 2010
The Killing Fields is an excellent film which provides a striking dramatisation of the 1970s Cambodian Holocaust. Focussing on the relationship between a US newspaper columnist (Sam Waterson) and his Cambodian guide (Haing S.
Ngor), it's a very human perspective of the chaos happening around them, where 2 million people were eventually killed by the Khmer Rouge. In a few scenes I felt the soundtrack was heavily distracting from the story, but this is still a very profound and effective drama with powerful images.
