Review of The Killing (1956) by Danny B — 21 Aug 2011
Heist movies are rarely this perfectly executed. Kubrick's eye shines through in a number of subtly beautiful tracking shots, but the script and overall sense of irony, something Kubrick will explore at length throughout his career, make the film brilliant.
A heist film should be just as methodical and precise as the physical robbery in the film, and Kubrick's perfectionism compliments just that. Any filmmaker who wants to make use of narration, which is generally lazy filmmaking, should take note of this movie.
