Review of The Killing (1956) by Joel A — 05 Sep 2012
The third feature film from master director Stanley Kubrick a great film getting him ready for the masterpieces he made ahead.
Although this was some what traditional & not entirely original it undoubtably had the Kubrick flair already. It had some fantastic tracking shots & had many early examples of the innovation that Kubrick used for the rest of his career.
The acting was solid & the pace was so fast & snappy, dialogue sparkled with Noir wise cracks & it just worked. The plans of the race track robbery rolled out before your very eyes then the twists & turns started happening.
For a 3rd film this is exceptional & is a top notch crime thriller in general, any Kubrick fan should revise his works prior to Lolita since there is some great stuff there.
