Review of The Killers (1946) by Russell B — 08 May 2008
Burt Lancaster's enigmatically resigned turn in his room, together with the skin-crawling unpleasantness of the titular killers in the diner, see two of the most noteworthy aspects of this picture oddly done and dusted in the first 10 minutes.
The remainder, unfortunately, is entertaining but relatively pedestrian noir fare, encompassing some elements that would be better executed a year later by Out of the Past, and some that had already been pre-dated by Double Indemnity 2 years earlier.
