Review of The Killers (1946) by Jens T — 30 Sep 2011
Usually I'm not such a big fan of the film noir genre, but Robert Siodmak's The Killers is something for itself. It's the story about a crime investigation led by the Life insurance investigator Jim Reardon (Edmond O'Brien).
A man named Ole Anderson, (Burt Lancaster) best known as the "Swede" because of his origin, is killed by two mobsters. Before he was killed it's know that he stole a large sum of money, which Reardon has a big interest in.
So he begins to investigate and ask all the people that knew him. This might seems much alike the same storytelling as the legendary Citizen Kane, but it fits right into this film noir genre. Burt Lancaster deliveries a superb debut performance.
We also have the sexy Ava Gardner as the femme fatal, Kitty Collins. A big thumbs up from me.
