The film is based upon the work of crime novelist Jim Thompson, who is quite famous as a writer and whose works have often been translated to film.

Director Michael Winterbottom almost created a masterpiece but unfortunately the bits that fail nearly ruins the film.

Casey Affleck gives an outstanding performance as Ford, likable and chameleonic. You actually sympathize with the character's attempts to regain self-control.

Other than Affleck, the acting is nothing special.

The cinematographer deserves all sorts of credit for the way the film is shot, the muted colors gives a 1950s nostalgia and the portrayal of the period is authentic.

The Killer Inside Me could have been a good film but is overshadowed by brutal and unnecessary violence.
