Review of The Killer Inside Me (2010) by Mario A — 28 Jul 2012
Not that good. And I LOVED Jim Thompson's book. So this was a great disappointment. After reading the original material though, I knew they were going to have a huge problems turning this into a film.
The entire book is based on the main character's strange, sometimes unreliable narration. The narration really brings you into the mind of a sociopath killer. That is where the best moments of the story were.
So transferring it to a film medium, creates problems. You are cutting a great character like Lou Ford off by the knees by not allowing us to get in his head. Other than that, Casey Aflleck did his best with what he had.
The sex scenes were sexy. The violent scenes were violent. But this is just the type of story that shouldn't be turned into a movie. I can't imagine anyone understanding what is going on without reading the book first.
Good Concept bleh execution. I would of gave it as lesser rating if Jim Thompson wasn't one of my favorite authors.
