Review of The Kids Are All Right (2010) by Luke G — 11 Dec 2012
Very well done. The Kids Are All Right has a fantastic cast of actors in a dramatic, though feel-good film. Same-sex marriages are exactly the same as marriages between men and women, complicated and filled with issues.
The movie is forgettable, but it is a good, smart statement about family values. Powering through troubles and loving the partner you are with triumph and make the movie nothing short of spectacular. The dynamic duo of Annette Bening and Julianne Moore is nothing short of astonishing.
These two have INSANE chemistry, as shown by the numerous accolades they both have been awarded for these roles. In addition to the two virtuoso actresses, we have the superb Mark Ruffalo bringing in a gentle and different addition to this family, while actually bringing nothing short of turmoil.
Ruffalo is amazing, and he shines in this role. When you have such an amazing ensemble of actors and actresses in a family film, you always want to pay particular attention to the kids. Mia Wasikowska and Josh Hutcherson are amazing, and this film would not be the film it is without them.
Both of them bring a fresh and innocent vibe to this already disfunctional family. When you have this ensemble of excellence, you need a great director. Lisa Cholodenko shows the hurt, the pain, and the catharsis of this family, as well as bringing a happy and warm environment.
The Kids Are All Right triumphs as one of those movies that will be a part of academy award history.
